Name and distribution: Bocote belogs to the genus Cordia (Boraginaceae). It is of Mexican origin and is definitively more heavy than the other species of the same group.
Bocote (Cordia gerascanthus or C. eleganides) is native at the Pacific Coast of Mexiko while the other precious Cordia species: Zirikote (Cordia dodecandra) is native in the atlantic lowlands of Mexico.

Properties: Density is around 0.90 m³ at 12% MC. Drying and processing are said to be without difficulties.
Use: cabinet works, turnery, handles, music instruments, billard cues
