Names and distribution: This species stands the entire family: Cupressus sempervirens belongs to the cypress family, the Cupressaceae. Its natural distribution is the Mediterranean region, North Africa, the Middle East and especially Italy. Cypress trees are often solitary, rarely growing in association, typical for the landscape in Tuscany and Umbria.

Appearance: light brown heartwood, distinctly seperated from whitish-gray sapwood. Growth rings are large in comparison to spruce and red cedar.

Use: appreciated in its area of origin for dimensionally stable constructions and cabinet works . Otherwise rarely used, if at all, for turnery, musical instruments, and in small quantities in the perfume industry due to the intensive sent of Cypress.
