Names and distribution: Amboina is the name of the tuber growing on the stem of Padouk trees. The tubers are found only on trees of the species Pterocarpus macrocarpus. Area of distribution: Burma and Laos. The tubers are rarely harvested and correspondingly low are the volumes. Amboina is one of the best paid burls worldwide.
Properties: Medium porosity, low swelling and shrinkage, low risk of cracking, good machinability, distinctive smell (pleasantly sweet)
Use: Veneers for automotive instrument, musical instruments (tops of electric guitars), turnery goods
