Granadillo \/ Macacauba is a tree species of the lowland rainforest of the Yucatan Peninsula and neighboring Guatemala. The species is also widespread in South America. Botanically, the species(Platymiscium spp.<\/em>) is classified as a legume.<\/p>\n The basic color is red-brown with subtle brown-black stripes. The color of the stems varies considerably from light red to deep brown-red. The decorative grain is regular to wavy in line with the grain pattern. The pores are fine to medium sized. Very decorative.<\/p>\n The density at a wood moisture content of u=12% is approx. 0.90 t\/m3<\/sup>. When the dense wood dries, there is a risk of cracking and deformation. Processing, on the other hand, is unproblematic. Smooth and closed surfaces can be created without great effort. Fresh granadillo has a characteristically sweet smell when cut. Mucous membrane irritation was occasionally observed during processing.
