Names and distribution:<\/h5>\n

Botanically, Cumar\u00fa(Dipteryx odorata<\/em>) belongs to the Fabaceae, a subfamily of legumes. Cumar\u00fa is a tree species that is widespread in the Amazon and extends from Brazil to Peru and Bolivia. In Bolivia, Cumar\u00fa goes by the name Almendrillo. The species is comparatively well represented in its natural range.<\/p>\n

Wooden picture:<\/h5>\n

The heartwood has a yellow to fawn or reddish-brown basic color. There is a comparatively large play of colors between light and dark shades. The pores are medium-sized and scattered. They occasionally contain light-colored ingredients, but these are hardly noticeable. The fibers are often intertwined and have a pronounced alternating twist. Overall plain wood.<\/p>\n

Properties:<\/h5>\n

Density at u=12% wood moisture is 0.96 t\/m3<\/sup>. The tangential shrinkage is specified at 8.2%, the radial shrinkage at 5.5%. Drying must be carried out carefully if warping and surface cracks are to be avoided. The wood is extremely hard, but can still be easily worked with all tools. Pre-drilling is absolutely necessary. The modulus of elasticity is given as 18,300 N\/mm2<\/sup> and the bending stiffness as 176 N\/mm2<\/sup>. Cumaru is weather-resistant and classified in resistance class 1, i.e. it can be kept in contact with the ground for up to 25 years. Nothing is known about leaching of ingredients.
\nRed and light brown grades are sold, which should be separated as far as possible for visual reasons.<\/p>\n

On the occasion of the 2010 Hessian State Garden Show in Bad Nauheim, the client opted for the durable and dimensionally stable hardwood Cumaru. The wood was imported at the beginning of 2009, planed after drying in our region and then installed step by step. A total of Jetty of 80m2<\/sup> and sun deck of 1100m2<\/sup>. Completion: spring 2010. All the wood used bears the FSC seal of approval (FSC-pure).<\/p>\n
