Cypress

Names and distribution: The species gave its name to an entire family: Cupressus sempervirens belongs to the cypress family, the Cupressaceae. Natural distribution: Mediterranean, North Africa, Middle East and above all Italy; cypresses are often solitary trees, rarely growing in clusters, forming landscapes in Tuscany and Umbria.

Wood appearance: yellowish light brown heartwood, clearly separated from the whitish-grey sapwood, annual rings also clearly limited, in young stands wide-aged, later narrow-aged.

Use: In the regions of origin for dimensionally stable frames, otherwise rarely used, if at all, then for woodturning articles, musical instruments, in small quantities for the perfume industry.
