Monzo – Leadwood – Leadwood

Names and distribution: Monzo, botanically Combretum imberbe, belongs to the Combretaceae family. Monzo is native to southern Africa. The small tree can reach diameters of up to 40 cm and heights of up to 15 m.

Wood appearance: The sapwood is narrow and white, the heartwood black-brown, darkening in the light. Pores fine and scattered, also concentrically arranged medium-sized pores with scattered mineral inclusions and resin cells. Structure: even grain, regularly occurring small knots and intergrowths, decorative.

Properties: The spec. weight is specified as approx. 1.22 t/m³ at a wood moisture content of 12%. The swelling and shrinkage values are estimated to be radial 2.0% and 4.7% tangentially, both low values. Technical drying is not carried out. Can be worked well in all directions, especially good for turning. Shiny surfaces are created. Extremely high hardness and high natural durability.

Use: Special wood for furniture, turned articles and musical instruments
