Palo Naranja is found in parts of Central America and northern South America.
Sapwood: yellow to ochre, heartwood: orange with yellowish-grey-brown shadows, which can occur sporadically. The grain is partly plain and regular, partly wavy and intertwined. The pores are fine to medium sized, the grain is mostly straight. Occasional wavy grain. Decorative.
The specific weight at u=12% wood moisture content is given as 0.72 – 0.90 t/m3. Palo Naranja dries slowly, but without deformation; drying cracks on the surface are frequently observed, especially in dense wood. The wood can supposedly only be worked with carbide tools. Beautiful surfaces are possible. The wood is weatherproof and largely resistant to fungal attack and insects. The bending stiffness reaches an average of 18,600 N/mm2 and can also be higher.
Exterior construction timber, turnery timber.
