Specialties - Special woods
The special product ranges…
In line with special customer requirements, we have formed the groups below on a user-oriented basis. The cuts are dimensioned in such a way that they offer the buyer a minimum of waste and maximum benefit. Items with the dimensions described are in stock, special sizes are possible. In general, these dimensions are not cast in stone. If the raw material is available, they can also be longer, wider or stronger. It all depends on the individual case. Inquiries are welcome and will be answered.
Wood for humidors
The suitable wood belongs to the genus Cedrela: Cedro – or the fragrant cedro tree – is used to build cigar cabinets, known as “humidores” in Spanish. Information on standard sizes and prices can be found in our web store. Larger quantities and lengths that can only be transported by forwarding agent, please inquire separately.
Timbers for the construction of longbows
Because the construction and dimensions of longbows and bowstring bows (violin bows) are so fundamentally different, we have created a special section for both user groups: Woods for the construction of longbows or sports bows on the one hand and woods for bow making on the other. Woods for the construction of the handles can be found in the woodturning overview.
Information on standard dimensions and prices of staves and laminates can be found in the pdf files.
Wood for barbecuing
All untreated woods are used here, whereby hardwoods predominate as they do not contain resins that promote sparking. Woods with a high density are also woods with a high calorific value.
Wood for smoking
Smoking is essentially about refining the flavor of fish and meat. With most smoking systems, selected woods smoulder quite quickly. The procedure must therefore be planned.
Depending on the type of smoking system, the following piece sizes can be used: small wood chips, coarse wood chips (so-called “chunks”) and finally wood chips. The smoke escaping from the smouldering wood has an effect on the smoked food, be it a piece of meat or a fish in the smoking tube. Only natural reclaimed wood is used.
Valued and proven smoking woods are:
Apple, maple, beech, oak, alder, cherry, walnut, plum and robinia/acacacia. Outside the country’s borders there are also: hickory, mesquite and juniper.
Grill and steaming board
The boards are first soaked in water and then “loaded” with the food to be grilled. This is followed by the grilling or cooking process in a kettle grill or in the oven in aluminum foil. The process serves to cook the fish rather than grilling or smoking it for a short time. Principle of action: Ingredients diffuse from the wood into the food when exposed to heat. Take cedar wood, for example: while dead cedar wood is not used for smoking, it is very popular as a base for steaming fish.
Aromatic woods / scented woods
These are woods with special ingredients, mostly essential oils.
Scented woods are known and available in our country (others, such as agarwood, may not be traded):
Vera / Palo Santo / Bulnesia spp.
Juniper – native / Juniperus communis
“Cedar – real cedar” / Lebanon cedar / Cedrus libanii
“Cedar, true cedar” / Atlas cedar / Cedrus atlantica
“Cedar” – Western Red Cedar / Thuja plicata
“Cedar” – Cedro / Spanish Cedar / Cedrela odorata
Lemon cypress / Chamaezyparis nootcartensis
Cypress – Cypress / Cupressus sempervirens
These woods have insecticidal properties, i.e. they are effective against moths and other unwanted creatures in the home. They are also used in the perfume industry. Prices depend on quantity. We will be happy to answer your request.
